Do you need housing advice?

We can help.

Do you need information on your housing options?
Are you homeless or worried about becoming homeless?
Are you affected by domestic abuse in your home?

The City of Edinburgh, together with other agencies can assist you to find a home. We also giving practical advice and assistance on a wide range of issues and can arrange support for you if you need it.

If you think you are at risk of homelessness, you are entitled to make an application for assistance from your local Council. We recognise that being homeless can be an upsetting and distressing experience and aim to offer a service that will provide the best solution to your housing problems. The advice we give you is free of charge.

We can offer help and advice on :-

  • Rented accommodation in the private sector
  • Finding a Council house
  • Accommodation with Housing Associations and Housing Co-ops
  • Emergency and temporary accommodation
  • Supported accommodation
  • Assessment of your legal rights under homelessness law
  • Home ownership
  • Support to move or to stay in your home
  • Referrals to specialist services for further advice and help
  • Rent advice, including rent arrears and housing benefit


Young Persons Service - A wide range of advice and support is available for young people wishing to discuss their housing options. This is for people aged 16-17 (or up to 21 if you have been looked after by Social Work).

The Access Point (TAP), provides health, social care and housing services for single people or couples who have complex needs.

Out of Hours - This service is available for crisis or emergency situations, if a person has nowhere to stay that night.

The emergency telephone number is 0800 032 5968 and is free to call.

Local Neighbourhood Offices can give advice on how to find temporary and permanent accommodation throughout Edinburgh. If possible you should call for an appointment but if you have nowhere to stay you can call in to see a duty officer.
