LHA-Direct website helps tenants renting accommodation from a private landlord to calculate the amount of Housing Benefit available to them from their Local Authority.
Private Letting Agents
When considering using a letting agent it’s a good idea to check to see if they are members of a regulatory body like ARLA (Association of Residential Letting Agents) or NALS (National Approved Letting Agents).
This means that they have trained staff, have a good knowledge of tenancy law and they have a complaints procedure. They should have a good local knowledge and may have a choice of property in the area you want.

These agencies will ask you to pay a deposit, the first month’s rent in advance and an administration charge. Administration charges vary from company to company.
