Housing Associations & Co-Operatives are not for profit organisations formed to provide and manage affordable homes for rent. They may also provide other services such as shared ownership but any homes you see advertised in this paper will be for rent.

Do they provide security and value for money?

The tenancy agreement they use provides exactly the same rights as that used by the Council. Their rents are roughly the same as ours and where service charges apply these will be displayed in the advert.

Do they provide a repairs service?

Yes in just the same way as the council their repairs service is just a phone call away.

If my bid is successful who will contact me?

The landlord of the property you bid for will contact you direct, arrange for you to view the property, and if you wish to accept, arrange for you to sign the tenancy agreement and make a date for moving in.

Are there any more Housing Associations & Co-Ops likely to start advertising their homes?

Due to the success of the trial period there are now 12 Housing Associations and Co-ops advertising through EH Your Key to Choice.

Do I have the right to buy?

In the majority of circumstances if you accept a Housing Association or Co-Op property you will not have the right to buy your home.

If you require further information on your right to buy eligibility it is important that you discuss this with the Housing Association before you sign your new tenancy agreement.
